Hecht Development Co. – Quality, Convenience, Value

Aquapalooza – July 31, 2010

JULY 31ST Aquapalooza 2010

is coming to Lake Norman! Thanks to Sea Ray of Lake Norman and Midway Marina, Aquapalooza is coming back again, this year on Saturday, July 31st from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The site is the same, the Hwy. 150 bridge at Midway Marina.

This is a great time to motor up on the lake, anchor and hang out with your friends and make new ones while you listen to music “on the water”. The band will play from 1:00 to 2:30 then again from 3:00 to 4:30, and playing “in the round” on a floating barge.
There will be lots of boats and tons of people, but this is an event you probably don’t want to miss!

Dreaming of Your New Home

This month, I would like to look at building versus buying when looking for that next home. There are a couple schools of thought, both with merit but let’s explore each.Ready to get started?

Building can be a difficult process and I have heard that if you make it through building a new house, without a divorce, you have accomplished something! I don’t think it’s that bad but can be stressful. The main advantages to building is that you get all those things you want in a house, you choose the plan and not someone else, you choose where you want the house and when you move in, there are no nail holes, no carpet to clean, no one has lived there before. The History of Lake Norman…Part 3

Seeing what was happening to the Lake, Crescent changed their program so these initial leases when the expiration date was reached would convert to a 5 year lease with 5 options to renew for 5 years each. The annual cost also was increased by $92 per year until it reached $480 per year in 1979 and thereafter went up with inflation. The opportunity was given for a leaseholder to purchase the deed to the lot, with the initial prices in the mid-1970s in the $6,500 to $10,000 range. In 1977, I had a leaseholder call me, very upset with the deed price he received from Crescent! I tried to explain to him that he had a main channel point lot with 484 feet on the lake, tremendous view in all direction and $11,400 really was fair! Continue Reading…

The History of Lake Norman… part 2

Second in the series…

My dad and I worked for a real estate firm in Charlotte, but did just about all our work around Lake Norman and in December of 1971, we decided to open a full-time real estate firm in the area. Our first office was on Hwy. 73 in Lincoln County in a trailer park “Alley Cat Park.” We had the first space on the right so we could have a sign out front and that was the first full-time real estate office at Lake Norman. Before this, any real estate was handled word of mouth, or by posting information at local service stations in the area, and by firms working in other businesses but selling real estate as a sideline.

The History of Lake Norman…from a Realtor’s Point of View

Photo Copyrighted. Lake Norman Reflections.

First in a Series.

The first time I came to Lake Norman was 1965 to ski with friends. I don’t remember but just a few houses along the shoreline and this was just a place to come bring the boat. I went out on the lake by myself in 1967, leaving from the Westport area and got lost because there were no landmarks; all the shoreline seemed to be wooded and vacant, with no houses.
